Rahman Dispute Calmed: Bangladesh to Play World Cup in India

A brewing controversy surrounding Bangladesh cricketer Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in the T20 World Cup, and a subsequent request to relocate matches from India, has been resolved. Reports indicate the International Cricket Council (ICC) has firmly rejected Bangladesh’s request to move their matches, citing no security concerns and upholding the tournament schedule.

The dispute arose from Rahman’s potential unavailability for the India leg of the tournament due to reported personal reasons. This led to concerns about Bangladesh fulfilling their commitments. However, former Bangladesh captain has revealed Rahman is “completely chill” about the situation, suggesting a resolution was always likely.

The ICC has also warned Bangladesh that failure to participate in matches scheduled in India could result in forfeiture of points. Despite the initial request for a venue shift, the ICC maintains there is no basis for altering the established schedule. Bangladesh has also been reminded of its revenue share from the tournament, contingent upon full participation. The situation appears to be de-escalating, with Bangladesh now expected to adhere to the original schedule and field a team for all World Cup matches.
