Bangladesh has banned the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following a series of escalating disagreements with Indian cricket authorities. The decision stems from a dispute over the availability of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for the IPL, and broader concerns regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The ban appears directly linked to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) frustration with what they perceive as a lack of communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding Rahman’s participation. Rahman was released by Kolkata Knight Riders, and the BCB alleges insufficient explanation for the decision.
Beyond the player issue, Bangladesh has also expressed reluctance to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, citing concerns about potential political implications and logistical challenges. The BCB is currently awaiting a response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding potential alternative venues. This refusal to confirm travel adds another layer to the growing friction between the two nations.
