Bangladesh has refused to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India, following government intervention regarding fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A government advisor, Asif, has reportedly requested that T20 World Cup matches be relocated from India to Sri Lanka.
The dispute centers around Rahman’s release from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL squad. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was informed of instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding Rahman’s availability. This prompted a strong response from the Bangladesh government, ultimately leading to the decision not to send the national team to India for the World Cup. The situation represents a significant escalation of tensions between the two cricket boards and governments.
