Sabarimala Gold Row: Political Accusations Escalate in Kerala

A controversy surrounding gold plating work at the Sabarimala temple in Kerala has triggered a major political clash between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) opposition. The dispute centers on allegations of irregularities and has quickly escalated into a blame game involving prominent figures.

The current flashpoint is a meeting between a key accused in the alleged gold scam and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, has publicly questioned the Congress party about this meeting, demanding clarification. He has simultaneously denied allegations that his office interfered with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.

The opposition UDF alleges interference by the Chief Minister’s Office in the SIT investigation, claims Vijayan vehemently rejects. He asserts the investigation is proceeding without any external influence. The LDF is using the alleged meeting between the accused and Gandhi to attack the Congress, while the UDF is attempting to highlight potential corruption and cover-ups.

The controversy also implicates a former Communist Party of India (Marxist) minister, further complicating the political landscape. The escalating accusations and counter-accusations threaten to prolong the dispute and potentially impact the upcoming political climate in Kerala.
