Karnataka Demolitions Spark Inter-State Political Clash

A recent demolition drive carried out by the Karnataka state government is rapidly escalating into a national political issue. The drive, ostensibly targeting illegal structures, has drawn accusations of bias and raised concerns about due process.
Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar has directly responded to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, requesting he refrain from commenting on the state’s internal affairs. This followed Vijayan’s criticism of the demolitions.
The controversy has also become a point of contention between the BJP and the Congress party. The BJP is alleging that the Congress, through this action, is mirroring tactics previously employed in Uttar Pradesh, known for similar ‘bulldozer justice’ approaches.
Kerala’s ruling CPI(M) is leveraging the situation to draw parallels between the Congress and the Sangh Parivar, framing the demolitions as ideologically aligned with right-wing policies.
Within Karnataka, the demolitions have prompted internal concern within the Congress itself, with some members voicing serious reservations about the actions. The Muslim League has also weighed in, suggesting the situation isn’t comparable to past events in Uttar Pradesh, but still expressing concern. The core of the debate centers on whether the demolitions disproportionately affect a specific community and whether proper legal procedures were followed.
