The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has declared its intention to boycott the Telangana State Legislative Assembly’s winter session. The decision stems from accusations of bias leveled against the Assembly Speaker. BRS leaders claim the Speaker is unfairly favoring the ruling Congress party, hindering fair debate and discussion.
The boycott announcement follows protests at Gandhi Bhavan, reportedly linked to the absence of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) from the Assembly proceedings. BRS spokesperson Harish Rao criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging a lack of understanding regarding crucial irrigation issues and accusing him of evading direct questions on the topic. Rao further characterized Reddy’s statements as misleading, referring to them as “TMCs of lies and cusecs of ignorance.”
The winter session is expected to focus on key amendment bills and a contentious debate surrounding the sharing of Krishna River waters. The BRS’s absence is likely to impact the proceedings and potentially delay the passage of legislation. The Congress government has yet to formally respond to the boycott announcement and allegations of bias.
