Swiss Resort Fire: Sparklers in Champagne Suspected Cause

Investigators have determined that a devastating fire at a Swiss ski resort was likely caused by sparklers affixed to champagne bottles. The blaze erupted rapidly, becoming a ‘flashover’ – a near-simultaneous ignition of all combustible materials in a confined space – according to authorities.
The fire quickly engulfed a bar area within the resort, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. A flashover is characterized by its intense heat and rapid spread, making escape extremely difficult. The use of pyrotechnics indoors, specifically Bengal lights, is now considered the primary cause of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, but initial findings point to the sparklers igniting flammable materials in the bar, leading to the catastrophic event. The attorney general has confirmed this preliminary assessment.
