Bangladesh is exploring the possibility of relocating its T20 World Cup matches scheduled to be played in India. This move stems from a controversy surrounding fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman and his release from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL franchise.
Rahman was unexpectedly released from KKR’s squad for the 2026 season following instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCB believes this decision was influenced by Rahman’s prioritization of national duty, specifically his commitment to playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh officials are concerned about the security and treatment of their players in India, given the circumstances of Rahman’s release. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) intends to formally approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss these security concerns and explore alternative venue options. Rahman himself has recently addressed the situation, stating his focus remains on representing Bangladesh.
The BCB is seeking assurances regarding player welfare and fair treatment throughout the tournament. A final decision regarding the relocation of matches will depend on the outcome of discussions with the ICC and the assurances received from Indian authorities.
