Khalid Letter Sparks Row: BJP Links Rahul to US Lobby

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Rahul Gandhi of being connected to a US lobbying effort following a letter written by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to imprisoned activist Umar Khalid. The letter, expressing concern over Khalid’s trial, was also signed by several US lawmakers.

The BJP claims the correspondence indicates a coordinated attempt to interfere in India’s internal judicial processes. They allege a link between Gandhi and the US lawmakers who signed the letter, suggesting a deliberate effort to pressure the Indian government. The party has framed this as an ‘anti-India lobby’ operating with Gandhi’s tacit support.

Mamdani’s letter emphasized that India’s sovereignty and judicial independence should be respected, a statement the BJP interpreted as unwarranted external pressure. The BJP has demanded clarification from Gandhi regarding his alleged role in facilitating this outreach. The opposition Congress party has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations, but sources indicate they will dismiss the claims as politically motivated.
