A dispute over office space in Thiruvananthapuram has ignited a political battle, pitting a Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA against both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representatives. CPI(M) MLA V.K. Prasanth has alleged he was asked by a BJP councillor to vacate his office within the Corporation building.
The demand for Prasanth’s removal echoes a similar call from Congress councillor Sabarinadhan, creating an unusual alignment between the traditionally opposing parties. The controversy began following a request from BJP councillor Sreelekha to Prasanth to relocate, a move critics say mirrors practices seen in states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
Kerala’s Education Minister, Sivankutty, has criticized Sreelekha’s actions, suggesting a swift adoption of a different political model within days of assuming office. The situation highlights growing tensions over resource allocation and political maneuvering within the state capital.
